Months now, the images have played across the dark side of your
eyelids, a series of eddies and currents within what has always been a tranquil pool of deepest blue. The water, constant motif of your dreamful sleep, is restless…
You wake, and the city of Origin is already astir and waiting for you. Dawn has broken, driving before it the last few puddles of the night-time. For as long as any care to remember, night over Origin has been accompanied by a gargantuan wall of water, the same wall which nightly lays waste to the entirety of the world outside the fastness of the city.
The city street is lit and bustling, men and women and more, elves, dwarves and planetars; orcs, and fiends and even the scrabbling Gnolfs, still cleaning away the refuse of the taller folk. Above the inscrutable buzzing streetlamps, the vaulted stone buildings rise 10 storeys at least above your head, leaping and clawing towards Turin’s shroud, the great glass dome which preserves Origin from certain inundation every eve.
Turin, the Patriarch and ruler of all that are Origin, has announced through the All-speaker that the newest expeditionary team; yours, is to be sent out into the wastes beyond Origin. Today is the first day this month that the shroud has shown the sun and the moon above it, instead of an opaque blackness, an omen that treasures will surely have fallen from the flood, awaiting your collection.
The cities denizens spare you a glance today, half filled with reverence at your new station and fear of what your task requires, venturing beyond the shroud. You turn back to the place you have called home for the past five years of preparation, and read again the sign above the door. What is the name that you see?
Dear players, it is time for you all to choose a character class and race with which to enter the world of Inundatia, send us your choices, questions and biography with the following points in mind.
1: You have been preparing to join the Expeditionaries for the last 5 years, but did have a life within the city before this.
2: No one, including you, has ever lived outside the city.
3: The Greyhawk cosmology is not directly used in this setting, ergo if you wish you character to be a specialist priest, or have some religious bent, talk to us and we will work something out. A mainstream priesthood does exist, which interprets the omens of the shroud for laypersons/gnolfs.
4: Origin is a vast city, with many aspects and alleyways, a lot of ins and outs and what have you’s. Let us know if you have any unconventional ideas for your characters and we will help you put them together.
